Due to a variety of reasons but most likely:

  1. Due to a recent dental injection. Usually very transient, caused by a prolonged polarization of the nerve, or inflammation around the nerve sheath membrane.
  2. Due to recent dental surgery. Usually due to a traumatized nerve and maybe transient. If however the nerve was severed it may be permanent. If the nerve was severed during the procedure attempts to repair should be initiated immediately.
  3. May be due to impingement of the dental nerve from a benign or malignant growth, viruses, or neurological disease. See you physician or dentist.
