Bacterial Infections

Drugs of choice are either Penicillin or Amoxicillin

Penicillin VK
Disp    500 mg
Sig      28 tabs

Take one tablet a day 4 times a day till gone


Amoxicillin 500 mg
Disp     500 mg
Sig  
   21 tabs

Take one tablet three times a day till gone

 

If no response within 48 hours using penicillin or amoxicillin:


Cephalexin 
Disp    250 mg
Sig      28 tabs

Take one tablet four times a day till gone

 

If no response to either penicillin, amoxicillin or cephalexin use both of the following simultaneously

Cephalexin 
Disp    250 mg 
Sig      28 tabs   

Take one tablet four times a day

Metronidazole ( Flagyl) Disp    250 mg
Sig      28 tabs

Take one tablet four times a day

If allergic to penicillin ( be aware that people allergic to penicillin also will usually be allergic to amoxicillin, and 50% of people allergic to penicillin will also be allergic to cephalexin)

Erythromycin 
Disp    250 mg
Sig      28 tabs

Take one tablet four times a day till gone

 

 

If no response in 48 hours

Clindamycin 
Disp    150 mg
Sig      56 caps

Take two capsules every six hours
